About Audio Magic

The Audio Magic mage: a small hooded figure in a tall, drooping pointed hat, drawn in black line, with two bright eyes in the shadow of the hood and both wide sleeves raised.
Fig. 1 — The mage. Drawn by Gobby, and printed here from an 1864 px master. Two renditions, inked separately for paper and for screen.

Audio Magic is a set of audio tools that run on your own machine, in a browser tab. Nothing you put into them is uploaded, because there is no server for it to be uploaded to — the models run in front of you, on your own hardware. This page says what the thing is, what it is built out of, and what to do when something goes wrong with a payment.

§ 1

What Audio Magic is

A set of audio tools that run inside a browser tab on your own computer: transcription, noise removal, silence trimming, stem separation, speech generation, voice cloning, sound detection, spectrograms, merging, fades and format conversion — eleven of them. There is nothing to install and nothing to configure. You open the tool you need, drop a file into it, and take the result back out.

§ 2

Your recording never leaves your computer

This is the mechanism the whole product is built on, not a privacy policy written over a normal cloud service. The models run in your browser, so the file is read off your own disk, worked on there, and saved back — it is never uploaded, and there is no server that could hold a copy of it. That is what makes it usable for tape you are not permitted to send anywhere: a source who needs protecting, a client interview, a patient session, an unreleased mix. There is no processing agreement to sign, and nothing left behind to delete.

§ 3

Built on open speech research

Audio Magic is a browser wrapper around other people's work. Whisper does the transcription, DeepFilterNet3 and RNNoise do the noise, Demucs separates the stems, Kokoro and Chatterbox make the speech. Every one of them was built and published by researchers who released it under a licence that lets anyone use it, and every one is cited on the credits page in the format its authors ask for.

Read the credits and citations — every model, its authors, its licence and the paper to cite.

§ 4

What it costs, and what the money is for

Every tool is free to use, bounded by an allowance rather than locked: 15 minutes of audio per tool per day and single files up to 5 minutes, with no account, no card and no watermark on anything you export. $4.99 a month removes both ceilings, after 7 days free. Because the processing happens on your machine, your audio costs us nothing per minute — which is why nothing here is metered per minute, and why the free tier can be as generous as it is.

Payments, billing and refunds

Everything below is about a subscription that already exists. What the plan costs and what the free tier includes are answered on the pricing page.

Q 1
+Can I get a refund?
We do not refund payments that have already gone through. The 7-day trial is there so you can decide before any money moves, and cancelling takes one click at any point after that. Cancelling stops the next payment and leaves Pro working until the period you have already paid for runs out, so you never lose time you bought.
Q 2
+Something has actually gone wrong with a charge — I was billed twice, or billed after I cancelled.
That is a mistake rather than a refund request, and we put mistakes right. Email support@audiomagic.studio with the date of the charge and the receipt Stripe sent you, and we will sort it out.
Q 3
+I paid, but the app still shows me on the free plan.
Reload the page. Checkout hands you back to the app, which waits for Stripe's confirmation to reach us and unlocks as soon as it does — but that confirmation occasionally arrives after the page has finished waiting, and a reload picks it up. If a reload does not do it, sign out and back in. If it is still wrong after that, email support@audiomagic.studio and we will look at the account directly.
Q 4
+I know I paid, but the account I am signed into has nothing on it.
A subscription attaches to the account you were signed into when you checked out, not to the email address on the Stripe receipt. Signing in with Google and signing in with an email and password create two separate accounts even when the address on them is the same one, so it is usually a matter of signing back in the way you did at checkout. If you cannot work out which that was, email support@audiomagic.studio and we will move the subscription onto the account you want it on.
Q 5
+A payment failed, or my card was declined. What happens to my access?
Stripe retries a failed payment over the following days and emails you each time it does. Until one of those attempts clears, the account drops back to the free tier — nothing is deleted and no work is lost, and Pro comes back on its own the moment the payment goes through. The fastest fix is to put a working card in through Manage subscription, which retries immediately.
Q 6
+How do I change the card I pay with, or find my invoices?
Both live in the Stripe billing portal, which opens from Manage subscription in the app. It holds the card on file, the billing address, and a receipt for every payment ever taken. Stripe also emails a receipt each time a payment goes through, so a search of your inbox for it will usually be quicker.
Q 7
+How do I cancel, and what happens to the rest of the month?
Manage subscription in the app opens the same billing portal, and cancelling there stops the next payment. Pro keeps working until the end of the period you have already paid for, and the app shows you the date it ends. You can resubscribe afterwards from the same place.
Q 8
+My account was given to me for free. Is there anything to pay or cancel?
No. A comped account is unlocked by hand and has no subscription behind it at all, so there is no card on file, nothing to renew and no billing portal to visit. It simply stays unlocked.

Your files, and what we keep

The short version is that the audio never reaches us, so most of what a privacy page would normally have to promise is not ours to promise.

Q 9
+Does my audio ever reach your servers?
No. Every tool decodes and processes the file in your browser, and the result is written back to your disk from there. Your recording is never sent anywhere, which is a fact about how the tools are built rather than a policy we could quietly change — you can watch it hold in your browser’s own network tab.
Q 10
+What actually gets stored about me?
If you have never made an account, nothing that identifies you. If you have: the email address you signed in with, and — if you subscribe — the status and renewal date of that subscription, so the app knows to unlock the ceilings. Card details are held by Stripe and never touch us. No audio, no transcripts and no output of any tool is stored anywhere, because none of it ever leaves your machine.
Q 11
+The models are large. Where do they come from, and when?
They download to your browser from a model host the first time you use the tool that needs them, and are cached and reused from then on. That first download is a real cost and worth knowing about — most are modest, but the voice cloning model is about 1.5 GB, which is the trade for a model that capable running locally at all. After it lands, that tool works with the network switched off.
Q 12
+Do I need an account to use any of this?
Only at checkout, because a subscription needs something to attach to. Every tool on the site works with no account and no card, and having an account on its own does not unlock anything.

Getting hold of us

Anything the FAQ above does not answer — a charge that looks wrong, a subscription on the wrong account, a tool that will not do what it says — goes to support@audiomagic.studio. If it is about a payment, include the receipt Stripe emailed you; it carries everything needed to find the charge.

The tools themselves are built on published speech research, and the mage was drawn by an artist. Both are credited by name, with sources, on the credits page. The pricing page covers what the plan includes and what the free tier allows.
